The Darkness of the Soul

Darkness pervades the length and breadth of our contemporary souls
As we relentlessly dive into the depths of those hellish holes
Committing sins of utterly inconceivable magnitude
We lose our morality to those demons, in multitude.

The soul is immortal, so the old saying reverberates
But what of those barbarians with their soulless gaits.
The animal kingdom thrives on 'survival of the fittest'
But when the predator is prey, hope is the faintest.

When evil triumphs over good, and good is next to none
We pray that it's a mere nightmare, that's making us glum.
We hope to move into the light, from the dark shadows overcast
Lest we be haunted for eternity, by the ghastly sins of our past.
